ABOUT

Kerem Yücel is an architect based in Istanbul. He completed his undergraduate studies in Turkey and earned his Master’s degree from the University of Buenos Aires, where he specialized in large-scale infrastructure and the interplay between architecture and urban transformation. His thesis examined highways and megastructures as integral architectural elements within the urban fabric.

While in Buenos Aires, Yücel collaborated with the architecture firm Alonso & Crippa, contributing to the Edificio Educación del Futuro project, which won first prize in an international competition. The project proposed innovative typologies for educational spaces, emphasizing spatial flexibility, sustainability, and adaptive learning environments.

In 2020, Yücel joined Tillotson Design Associates in New York, where he explored forward-thinking approaches to lighting design. His work spanned a variety of mid- to large-scale projects, providing him with valuable insight into the role of light in shaping spatial perception and atmosphere. This experience enriched his architectural perspective, reinforcing his interest in multisensory and experiential design.

Returning to Istanbul, Yücel completed his first independent residential commission: Kargalı House. Situated atop a remote hill within the northern forests of Istanbul, the home is conceived as both a private retreat and a multifunctional production space. Designed with sensitivity to its natural surroundings, the house features a lightweight, transparent architectural language — a floating glass volume that blends into the landscape. Prioritizing minimal environmental impact, Kargalı House also functions as a passive income model for the family and doubles as a venue for film, advertising, and creative productions, showcasing the potential of residential architecture to support hybrid, adaptive use.

In 2022, Yücel joined MAS Architecture, contributing to a range of residential projects and taking part in the design of the İzmir University of Economics Güzelbahçe Campus. Developed in collaboration with MİMLAB, the project received first prize in a national architectural competition, recognized for its innovative approach to educational design and its integration with the natural terrain.

Kerem Yücel currently works as a freelance architect, offering services in concept development, 3D visualization, interior architecture, and construction consultation. His design philosophy centers on adaptability, contextual sensitivity, and human-centric solutions that respond thoughtfully to the evolving needs of contemporary life.
